New G-Shock Gulfman

New model from its famous G-Shock line – Gulfman GW9100-1. Featuring water, shock and rust resistance, the Gulfman is the perfect fusion between function and fashion.

The titanium case and screw pins penetrate the band joints completely, making the timepiece rust and corrosion resistant. Special titanium alloy button shafts offer a higher level of shock resistance to previous models. The deep waved band releases stress from the tight fit that can occur with a wet wrist, which provides superior comfort and durability in wet conditions.

“The Gulfman is the perfect watch for anyone who plays or works in a wet or humid environment,” said Dave Johnson, Senior General Manager of Casio’s Timepiece Division.

The Gulfman GW9100-1 includes multi-band atomic timekeeping, allowing it to calibrate to the correct time by receiving time signals from atomic clocks in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Japan. By synchronizing with the atomic clocks, the Gulfman G-Shock watches achieve unparalleled long-term accuracy (the same accuracy as the atomic clocks that drive the time signals).

In addition, the Gulfman is equipped with solar power, 200 meter water resistant, world time features (offering 29 times zones, city codes, daylight savings settings), five daily alarms, 1/10-second countdown timer, 1/100-second stopwatch and an auto calendar.

The Gulfman GW9100-1 is available nationwide and online for $220. For more information please visit www.gshock.com.

Newest G-Shock addition – Mudman GW9000A-1

Today was announced Casio's newest G-Shock addition – Mudman GW9000A-1. The Mudman is a series of Casio G-Shock watches that feature both shock resistance and a sealed case to prevent foreign particles, such as oil, dust or mud from entering or ruining the watch.

The Mudman’s sealed controls and oversized case are combined with technological advances like multi-band atomic timekeeping. The Mudman automatically calibrates to the correct time by receiving time signals from atomic clocks in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Japan. By synchronizing with the atomic clocks, this Mudman G-Shock watch achieves unparalleled long-term accuracy (the same accuracy as the atomic clocks that drive the time signals).

“The Mudman series of G-Shock watches can endure the toughest and dirtiest environments, locking out grime and protecting the watch functions,” said Dave Johnson, Senior General Manager of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “This rugged design is the perfect companion for men who seek a stylish yet practical timepiece.”

In addition, the Mudman is equipped with solar power, 200 meter water resistant, world time features (offering 29 time zones and 48 city codes with daylight savings settings), five daily alarms, 1/10-second countdown timer, 1/100-second stopwatch and an auto calendar.

The Mudman is available this month, nationwide and online for $150. For more information please visit www.gshock.com.

Wrist watch - how it was

The wrist watch is a small sized portable timepiece that is able to display time and in some cases, the day, date as well as month and year. The wrist watch is in fact a comparatively new invention. Originally the first portable time pieces were designed to be kept in the pocket, hence the name “pocket watches” . The first wrist watch was the invention of a person named Patek Philippe who invented it around the end of the nineteenth century and it was then thought of as being a women’s accessory.

It was not until the beginning of the twentieth centaury that the first mens wrist watches began to appear. This was when Alberto Santos Dumont asked his friend Louis Cartier for a watch that could be easily used and the latter responded by giving him a leather-band wrist watch that the gents wrist watch first made an appearance in the beginning of the twentieth century. The benefit of wearing a watch on the wrist was first noticed by men who wore it in this way during World War I who did not need to fumble in their pockets to check what time it was and could merely glance at their wrist watch to ascertain the time. As a consequence, even today most Westerners wear their watches on the wrist, a direct consequence of World War I.

Nowadays wristwatches are available either purely as a time piece and good quality wristwatches are available for less than $100 or you can pay many thousands for a top quality Rolex or Cartier watch which are as much an item of jewellery as a timepiece.

Rolex GMT ICE - The most expensive Rolex ever!

Basle 2007 was by any standards amazing but for Rolex it was even more momentous.

Launching a new product can be a nervous time for most watch companies but when your new watch retails for £255,000 then it has to be good. The new Rolex GMT Ice was only shown to authorised agents calling onto the stand and was not on display for members of the public visiting the show and because of this, there has been little seen of this new show-stopping watch. As yet, the watch is not even shown on the Rolex website!

Made from Platinum and carrying a huge 25 cts of diamonds around the case, bracelet and dial the GMT Ice is the most expensive Rolex to date. During the course of the next few weeks, we hope to have some further information and images to display but in the meantime, most of us can only dream....

We are expecting the first deliveries of this awesome timepiece in October/November and I am sure that it will be seen on his wrist in a copy of OK! magazine soon afterwards.

Elysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler watch

Many years ago Galilee and Copernicus gazed at sky and tried to find an interconnection of terrestrial and celestial time. In the course of time this interconnection became more and more evident and interest to celestial bodies grew as well.

Unlike our ancestors we can gaze at celestial bodies even not lifting up our heads if there is a Tellurium J. Kepler watch from Ulysses Nardin on our wrist.

The model Tellurium J.Kepler of cosmic series got its name after famous 14th/15th-century astronomer who was one of the first scientists to document the laws of planetary motion.
Ulysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler shows the Earth as seen from the North Pole.

But in case you live in the southern hemisphere you have an opportunity to order the Ulysses Nardin watch that will show you a view of the South Pole.

There is a flexible spring that rotates around as the day progresses and indicates and the time and place of sunrise and sunset. There is a part of the timepiece that rotates once per year and another one that with the help of dragon hand shows you when there will be eclipses of the Sun and the Moon.
The dial of the Ulysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler is made with the help of genuine enamel cloisonné technique and is put into 43 mm platinum case covered with sapphire crystal.

As for perpetual calendar, it completes one turn each year. The mechanism of the timepiece is self-winding with about 42 hours power reserve. The watch is water-resistant up to 30 meters.

Not many people can become Ulysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler watch owners. The timepiece is launched in limited edition series consisting of 99 pieces. The price for such a unique timepiece is 118 000 dollars.

The New Citizen BL5315-50E Eco-Drive Diver

Citizen is generally less well known than Seiko for their dive watches, however they do offer some very interesting pieces (e.g. a 1,000m mechanical nicknamed "Autozilla"; a 300m Eco-drive called "Eco-zilla"; and a new 200m Eco-Drive known as "Orca", among others). Adding to their innovative diver collection, and challenging what it means for a dive watch to be considered a "diver", Citizen now has a new line of Eco-Drive divers with chronographs and alarms. At the head of the pack is the BL5315-50E.

The Citizen BL5315-50E

At 44mm of stainless steel, it's large but understated. Features include:

  • Stainless steel case and bracelet
  • Perpetual calendar (nice!)
  • Eco-Drive (4-month power reserve)
  • 1-hour stopwatch
  • 12/24 time and dual time zone support
  • Alarm
  • Water resistant to 200 meters, or about 660 feet
  • Mineral crystal
  • Unidirectional ion-plated ratcheting bezel
  • 44mm case, not counting the crown (nice and chunky)
There are several similar versions available with slightly different colors and looks. The BL5314-52E is the most expensive at $475 while the BL5334-04E sits at the lower end at $375.

Citizen really seems to be stepping up their game lately. Lots more to come.

Durable digital watch

Today's question of the day from Outside Gear

Question:
My boyfriend is stationed in Iraq and he needs an extremely durable digital watch that is water resistant (due to extreme heat and sweating) and has 24-hour time format, compass, barometer, timer, etc. What would you suggest in the $200 range?
— Loree
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Answer:

I can suggest several things, Loree. This summer I’ve been wearing a St. Moritz Momentum VS-1 ($200; st-moritz.com). It’s pretty much a do-everything outdoor watch with an altimeter, barometer, and compass, plus all the usual sport watch features such as alarm, timers, and more. It has a stainless steel case and a tough rubber wrist band, and is waterproof to 165 feet. It should be tough enough for any conditions your boyfriend is facing. I’ve found the altimeter to be exceedingly accurate and assume most other functions offer the same. It also has a little cloudy/sunny/partly sunny icon on the main screen, and that’s fairly easily flummoxed. But that’s minor.

Like most altimeter watches, the VS-1 does have some interface challenges that require a moderately close reading of the manual. Actually, a close reading is all that is possible; the VS-1’s manual has the smallest type I have ever been unable to read. But most features are sussed out fairly easily. And at $200, the VS-1 is a good buy.

Suunto’s Vector ($200; suunto.com) is sort of the cast-iron skillet in that company’s watch line. It also has an altimeter, barometer, and compass, plus watch features and many ways to slice and dice the data, such as rates of ascent/descent, records of barometric changes, and more. Comments on VS-1 apply here as well: the interface takes some puzzling, but works pretty well. It’s water-resistant to 100 feet. It has a plastic/metal case, and probably isn’t quite as tough as the VS-1.

Hope he’s doing well there!

New Bellum Classics Watches

Bellum Classics puts a new spin on vintage watches. For their Love Collection they recycle name brand watches (Rolex et al.) and then add redesign the bands and create wildly intricate designs on the back of the watch cases. The watches are chosen for their distinctive looks and specific made-to-order items can be made. For every watch sold a donation is made to an art or environmental foundation of the buyer's choice. The company is launching with watches but plans to eventually create customized vintage automobiles and motorcycles.

Not only men's wearing watches

ALFRED Dunhill Timepieces go back a long way, around the time when motorcars first hit the road at the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1903, cars afforded little or no protection from the weather and, with all the manual adjustments, hand throttles, crashing gearboxes, fuel and ignition settings that had to be manually tweaked while driving, well, how could the well-dressed gentlemen have time to check his pocket watch to find out what the time was?

The answer was obvious to Alfred Dunhill. If we could have a clock in the house, why not have one in the car? So, he came up with a pocket watch that fitted snugly inside a sturdy, dashboard-mounted brass case. The case was teardrop shaped and had a hinged porthole cover which allowed the watch to be removed at the end of the journey.

The Dashboard Clock in brass casing circa 1903 was usually placed upside down to protect it from the mostly unfavourable weather in England.
This was Dunhill’s first foray into watches and it opened up a whole new world for his company.

Soon, he was interpreting the timepieces in unprecedented ways; the belt buckle watch, the lighter watch, the pen watch and the money clip watch. Wristwatches, however, remained his forte.

The tradition continues today, with cars continuing to inspire the dunhill watch collection.

The A-Centric, an understated watch inspired by dunhill’s century-old “Motorities” heritage has the outer chapter ring displaying the days of the month marked by a revolving hand with a crescent tip. The unique Rev-o-Meter Calendar, inspired by the classic rev counter in cars, reminds the wearer when to advance the hand to a new month.

The classic looking A-Centric Pentagraph with its five dials.
For those who like classic looking watches, the A-Centric Pentagraph, with its central 12-hour dial and outer date ring is a combination of old world elegance and a contemporary look.

Its name derives from five separate hands, all driven from the centre of the dial. The hands indicate hours, minutes, seconds, date and an additional time zone.

The outer ring is a 24-hour dual time-zone indicator, the second ring gives the date, the third ring shows the seconds and the main one, a 12-hour dial, represents local time.

The Wheel Watch Chronograph with its unique mono-lug case.
The Wheel Watch Chronograph has a unique mono-lug case shape that harks back to metal spinners often used to secure wheels to period sports cars.

The orginal Wheel Watch, the Petrolhead, with its power reserve and date display features, is now complemented by a chronograph version designed for timing everything from the speed of a McLaren F1 to the perfect boiled egg.

With its 42mm case bordered by an engine turned bezel that cleverly conceals the crown and push pieces to maintain the clean lines of the watch, this watch is something fun and unique.

A 1936 facet watch which was the first wristwatch to appear in a dunhill catalogue, though the earliest dunhill watches dates to 1925.
Other watches in the collection include the rugged “Citytamer”, a sophisticated and elegant watch with a horizontally-split, two-part case with top-loading screws inspired by the bonnet of a period sports car and “Carwatch”, which takes its cue from the Edwardian driver’s watches designed to be worn on the side of the wrist, rather than on top so that they could be seen without the wearer having to release take his hands off the bucking steering wheel.

  • The A.Dunhill Ltd watch collection is available at the dunhill boutique at Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.

About what can tell wrist watches?

As is generally known, a man is «met on clothes», and only «accompany on a mind». you have the business meeting? Interview? Do not you want to strike a person in dirt? Or does want anymore to know about an interlocutor?
When questions and stories do not give a synonymous answer, a cloak-room is attentively studied, any change is critically estimated. But the few suspects, that about character and tastes of man it is possible to judge on wrist watches. And to no purpose. It appears that those, who carries...
A "luxury watch" is people, as a rule, well organized, value own and stranger time, love an order in everything. They are engaged in favourite business and get enormous pleasure from it.
A watch of «Haut couture» is their proprietor, probably, loves elegance, a rumour knows in society life. Such people in-process more frequent than all are exact and pedantic.
«Piled» up watch (a few clock-faces, stop-watch and t. of p.). Such people are easy in intercourse, love all new and unusual, consider that weaknesses exist in an order to indulge them. In the soul they are nice children.
Electronic watch - with a microcalculator, by a built-in notebook etc. Such watch is carried by people energetic, loving to accept rapid decisions, dynamic. They prefer non-standard decisions and stand monotony neither in life nor in-process.
Watch with Roman numeration. Their possessors prefer classic style, good kitchen and exactness. They a few conservative, prefer that is tested time are old friends, self-possessed wine, familial valuables.
Watch with arabic numeration. As a rule, belong to the people, to capable realistically to look at the world and not build «air locks». They are able to estimate a situation and try to accept a rapid decision. But many of them at heart romantic natures.
Watch with marks in place of numbers. People, having an own point of view and look to the world, prefer to carry them. They are curious and opened, but them not so easily to over-persuade.
