Ulysse Nardin watches

Founded in 1846 and named for an accomplished watchmaker, Ulysse Nardin watches represent a proud tradition of quality and mechanical innovation, acknowledged throughout the years with 18 international gold medal awards and 4,300 first prizes in the field of chronometry.

10 technological innovations united in one watch perfectly sum up Ulysse Nardin’s vision on the future of mechanical watchmaking.

Innovation 1- Barrel on ball bearings.
A 96 balls, non lubricated ball bearing guides the barrel both vertically and laterally. This solution is on the market since 2005.

Innovation 2 - “Dual Ulysse” escapement.
The “Dual Ulysse” escapement does not need any lubrication. Its reduced angle of lift (31 degrees) provides a great advantage. It is on the market since 2005.

Innovation 3 - Silicium bearings.
Lubrication free bearings in silicium are fitted into the brass base plate. No oil recesses are necessary.

Innovation 4 - DRIE precision and low friction advantages put together.
The escapement bridge made in solid silicium benefits from the high precision of the process. The good friction coefficient of silicium is another advantage. The movement designer is free to design holes very close to the exterior of the bridge as no jewels are required.

Innovation 5 - The reinforced silicium bridge.
Due to the combination of 2 technologies DRIE and LIGA, Sigatec, Mimotec and Ulysse Nardin have produced a bi-material bridge which performs extremely well. The exclusive process stands for precision, silicium stands for low friction and nickel stands for mechanical toughness.

Innovation 6 - Exploiting the elasticity of silicium.
Ulysse Nardin developed the revolutionary shock absorber bearing into the balance wheel shaft which pivots in the centre of the silicium disc. The elastic spiral shaped silicium disc deforms itself when shocks arise and returns to its original position immediately after the shock has been absorbed.

Innovation 7 - Silicium spring.
The Silicium hairspring is an excellent solution and we have the know-how to produce it.

Innovation 8 - Roller and Pin.
The roller and pin are made in one precise single component in the double sided DRIE process developed by Sigatec.

Innovation 9 - Stopper fork and security pin of the “Dual Ulysse” escapement.
The” Dual Ulysse” escapement « blocker » is a multifunctional element. Similarly to the anchor of the Swiss Anchor escapement, it bares a safety-pin which must be perfectly aligned. Thanks to the double side etching process created by Sigatec, this former multi part unit can be made as a single component not requiring any assembly or touch up.

Innovation 10 - Two-level process.
The escapement wheel and pinion are made in one single piece thanks to the two level etching process created by Sigatec. This new technology will seduce many movement designers all over the world.

Pioneering.
Ulysse Nardin has presented quite a number of “World’s Firsts“ in the past years, and many of them have used the „Freak“ as a showcase.
The “Freak“ was the first watch with a silicon escapement. It was commercialized in 2001.Some Freak prototypes housed the first hairspring made of polycrystalline diamond which showed astonishing elasticity. The “Dual Ulysse” escapement with parts made of nickel-phosphor (NiP) and silicium (2005
The first watch with an escapement made of polycrystalline diamond was commercialized in 2005

Escapement components made of silicium can be used as skeletons to “grow” on them polycrystalline diamonds
The succession of “Freak” models illustrates the continuous technological developments at Ulysse Nardin!

Product line overview

The core of the Ulysee Nardine line is the "Marine" series which has the "Maxi Marine", "Marine Annual Chronograph" and the "Marine Chronometer 1846". All of these models sell well. Additionally, the "San Marco" series has always been popular. There are also limited editions that have gained Nardin great notoriety which include the new repeater "Sonata", the turbillion "The Freak", and the "GMT +/- Perpetual".

Luxury wristwatches from Cartier

Cartier watches are always focused on the relationship between form and movement, aesthetics and "savoir-faire", technique and art. This continual quest is the driving force behind every new watchmaking challenge for Cartier watches. Cartier continues to harness each new skill and talent to combine tradition and innovation. In the mysterious and subtle world of cartier watchmaking, artist and technician work side by side as willing partners. These are the fundamental concepts underlying all creations in Cartier watches. The history of Cartier is fantastic, as it invented many styles of watches that are still produced today. Louis-Francois Cartier was born in 1819. At the age of 28 in 1847, after an apprenticeship with master watchmaker Adolphe Picard, Louis-Francouis Cartier took over his master's Paris jewellery business. He built his reputation by knowing how to satisfy the most extravagant of desires. The first wrist watch made by Cartier was called the Santos Dumont named after the Brazilian Aviator in 1904. 2 years later, Cartier began experimenting with jewel – encrusted watches.
In 1911
Louis Cartier created the TORTUE and the BAIGNOIRE. 1917 saw the introduction of the famous Cartier Tank watch.
In the early 1920s Cartier formed a joint company with Edward Jaeger (of the famed Jaeger-Le Coultre company) to produce movements solely for Cartier. Thus was the famed European
watch & clock company born, although Cartier continued to use movements from other great makers.
The most remarkable moments of Cartier were the creation of the first man's wristwatch, the first water resistant timepiece. Cartier watches can be found having movements from world's most famous watch manufacturers such as: Jaeger-Le Coulter, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet and Movado.
Today Cartier continues designing beautiful works of art for men and women. In its watch
arsenal one can find such famous collections. Cartier watches are available in a wide range of prices and styles. If you are looking for a prestigious name brand that offers a mix of quality craftsmanship and contemporary styling, one need look further than Cartier.

Carl F.Bucherer - chronograph

After over 2 years of development, the Patravi Chronograde by Carl F.Bucherer is a world first with 6 useful functions and a retrograde hour display for the chronograph. Functions include a chronograph, flyback function, large date, annual calendar, power reserve indication and retrograde hours totalizator.

The most important function of this wristwatch is the chronograph with its retrograde hours indicator. After each rotation of the central chronograph hand, the minute totalizator at 9 o'clock moves along one more graduation mark. This is in turn connected via an imposing gearing mechansim to the hours counter between 7 and 8 o'clock, completing its own rotations. The corresponding hand moves downwards through a semi-circular scale. When the hours counter reaches the end of its scale, it shoots instantly back to its starting position, in order to start its journey again from this position.

This is a function which should appeal to people in highly demanding positions with little time at their disposal. Pilots in the cockpit, for example, when they are in the landing queue and have to fly round in standard loops. Its takes them too long to stop the chrono each time and, before each new circuit, re-zero and start the chronograph again from scratch. One press on the push-piece is enough to restart the chronograph directly, without an intermediate stopping operation.

Additional features are: a large date display and a highly complex calendar which takes into account the variable months with 30 or 31 days. Only at the end of February will an adjustment by the owner be required with the crown, which resets it completely for the next year.

The overall appearance of the watch is decidedly masculine. The high-grade steel case is 44mm in diameter, water resistant to 50 metres and the bracelet is available in leather or robust high-grade steel.

Rolex GMT ICE - The most expensive Rolex ever!

Basle 2007 was by any standards amazing but for Rolex it was even more momentous.

Launching a new product can be a nervous time for most watch companies but when your new watch retails for £255,000 then it has to be good. The new Rolex GMT Ice was only shown to authorised agents calling onto the stand and was not on display for members of the public visiting the show and because of this, there has been little seen of this new show-stopping watch. As yet, the watch is not even shown on the Rolex website!

Made from Platinum and carrying a huge 25 cts of diamonds around the case, bracelet and dial the GMT Ice is the most expensive Rolex to date. During the course of the next few weeks, we hope to have some further information and images to display but in the meantime, most of us can only dream....

We are expecting the first deliveries of this awesome timepiece in October/November and I am sure that it will be seen on his wrist in a copy of OK! magazine soon afterwards.

Elysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler watch

Many years ago Galilee and Copernicus gazed at sky and tried to find an interconnection of terrestrial and celestial time. In the course of time this interconnection became more and more evident and interest to celestial bodies grew as well.

Unlike our ancestors we can gaze at celestial bodies even not lifting up our heads if there is a Tellurium J. Kepler watch from Ulysses Nardin on our wrist.

The model Tellurium J.Kepler of cosmic series got its name after famous 14th/15th-century astronomer who was one of the first scientists to document the laws of planetary motion.
Ulysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler shows the Earth as seen from the North Pole.

But in case you live in the southern hemisphere you have an opportunity to order the Ulysses Nardin watch that will show you a view of the South Pole.

There is a flexible spring that rotates around as the day progresses and indicates and the time and place of sunrise and sunset. There is a part of the timepiece that rotates once per year and another one that with the help of dragon hand shows you when there will be eclipses of the Sun and the Moon.
The dial of the Ulysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler is made with the help of genuine enamel cloisonné technique and is put into 43 mm platinum case covered with sapphire crystal.

As for perpetual calendar, it completes one turn each year. The mechanism of the timepiece is self-winding with about 42 hours power reserve. The watch is water-resistant up to 30 meters.

Not many people can become Ulysses Nardin Tellurium J. Kepler watch owners. The timepiece is launched in limited edition series consisting of 99 pieces. The price for such a unique timepiece is 118 000 dollars.
